What is a Grace Brethren Church?

The Charis Movement, comprised of leaders and churches commonly known as Grace Brethren, traces its family roots back to Germany, where in 1708 a small group of sincere Christ-followers committed to form a church that would be faithful to the teachings of the New Testament. Yet we recognize that our spiritual foundations are built upon the broader work of godly men and women throughout history who have faithfully labored to interpret and apply God’s truth. While different expressions of our beliefs have been drafted throughout our history, we have consistently affirmed our unwavering loyalty to Jesus Christ, the Living Word, and to Holy Scripture, the Written Word, as our final authority in all matters of faith and practice.

Throughout the centuries, our movement has known glorious times of progress and sad times of distraction over secondary issues. By the grace of God, today we are a global family of churches that shares a common commitment to understanding the Word of God (Biblical truth), to living as the People of God (Biblical relationships), and, to fulfilling the Purposes of God (Biblical mission). This threefold commitment is shared throughout the geographically and culturally diverse congregations that identify with us.

Our Beliefs

We affirm our commitment to the core truths of the Bible which we share with other genuine believers in Jesus Christ.

Ministries We Support

As believers, we recognize that everything we possess has been given to us by God to use for His glory and purposes. It is our joy to use our resources to support the ministries and missionaries, whether in Winchester, nationally, or around the globe.

Meet our Pastor

Pastor Davey Ermold

Pastor Davey and his wife, Laura, were married in 2010. They have four children: Daniel, Micah, Rebekah, and Naomi. Davey grew up in Boyertown, PA, and received his B.S. in Bible and B.Mus. in Performance from Cairn University. Towards the end of his undergraduate program, Davey was encouraged to continue his biblical studies at Capital Bible Seminary, where he earned his Th.M. in Theology.

After graduating, Davey served as Director of Campus Ministries, Resident Director, and Adjunct Professor at what was then Washington Bible College, teaching classes in Bible exposition, biblical languages, and philosophy. While he waited on God’s timing for vocational ministry in the local church, he served at Grace Brethren Church of Calvert County (Owings, MD) in a variety of ministries. He was licensed in the Charis Fellowship in 2013, and ordained in 2019.

Laura grew up at Grace Brethren Church of Calvert County. She graduated from Messiah College with her B.S. in Early Childhood Education, and subsequently taught at Grace Brethren Christian School in Clinton, MD for ten years before moving to Winchester, VA.

Pastor Davey became the pastor of Blue Ridge Grace Brethren Church in July of 2018. He prays his ministry echoes that of Paul’s in Colossians 1:28 — It is Jesus “we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.”
